If you’ve been vaping for a while now, and you’ve had your fun experimenting with flavors and your personal vaporizer, you might be thinking of venturing to the next level of vaping adventure—the vape mods.
You may have heard on vaping forums, blogs, or websites about modifying your vape. While customizing your vape can be fun, there are some things you should learn before you start.
Before messing with your vaping equipment, it is highly recommended that you gain a lot of experience with vape pens, if you haven’t already.
Types of Vape Pen Mods
There are a few directions you can go in with your vaping modifications. You can choose between Mech Mods (Mechanical Mods), Variable Wattage Mods, and Variable Voltage Mods.
Mechanical Vape Mods
A Mech Mod is a good place to start for handy aspiring vapers.
A Mechanical Vape Pen Mod is just taking a casing, putting batteries into it, and attaching the atomizer (either RBA or RDA) that creates the e juice vapor.
The Mech Mods are a more complex mod that requires the knowledge of circuitry to keep your battery from overheating, plus the ability to build your own coils, etc.
You must have competent knowledge regarding resistance and voltage in order to safely work on such complicated mods. Mech Mods are unregulated device modifications and these devices can be very dangerous if you aren’t using them correctly.
Variable Voltage Mod
A Variable Voltage Mod is essentially a vape pen with a power control added to it. It lets you change the current going through the vape pen, and interacts with the atomizer’s OHMs, to produce heat. By moving the voltage higher or lower, you’ll be turning the temperature up and down. This provides a completely different vaping experience at the various levels.
The variable voltage and variable wattage mods are considered regulated modifications, because they have included safety features of circuitry that can prevent the short circuiting of your battery.
More advanced mods will include an overcharge protection feature that will power the device off.
Variable Wattage Mod
Just like the Variable Voltage Mod, the Variable Wattage Mod also changes the temperature of the vape pen, but in a more direct way.
This is just a basic introduction of the different types of vape modifications you can make, to help you figure out which modification style you’re more interested in.
Those without a lot of experience with vaping modifications should definitely start looking into the Variable Wattage or Variable Voltage Mods first, and work their way up from there.
